What is a Community Ambassador?

A Community Ambassador for the Birmingham Black Business Census is a leadership role dedicated to empowering Black-owned businesses, strengthening community connections, and shaping this initiative's data collection and advocacy.

Community Ambassadors are:

  • Neighborhood Leaders: As the primary contact for their assigned areas, build relationships with stakeholders to ensure Census participation. (Estimated: 3 hours/week)
  • Canvassing Experts: Leading in-person efforts to engage Black-owned businesses, collecting accurate data, and addressing questions from business owners. (Estimated: 10 hours/week)
  • Volunteer Mentors: Supporting and guiding a team of volunteers, organizing team, and fostering collaboration. (Estimated: 2 hours/week)
  • Community Advocates: Representing the Census at events and local meetings to promote awareness and recruit more volunteers. (Estimated: 3 hours/week)
  • Administrative Contributors: Tracking progress, maintaining records, and updating the Census team. (Estimated: 2 hours/week)

Time Commitment: 20 hours per week

Stipend: $4,200 total (or $1,400 dispersed monthly from February to April).
